One of the hardest things I had to learn was that there are twenty-four hours in a day. Anyone over the age of six knows this, right? Time is infinite, but we cannot go back or save it up to use it later. Time is not some movie where we can gamble with it. I learned that life will change in a blink of an eye when I was thirteen. My mother was on this earth one minute and gone the next. This event shaped my life in a way that has stayed with me all my life. In many ways, this is where I learned to stand still and walk thru the storm
We all struggle with time. We often tell ourselves that there is not enough time. That is furthest from the truth. Think about the things that you have to get done and things you would like to do. Those are usually two completely different lists. I pick one from the have to list and one from the like list. If I get them both done, then I’ve had a good day.
I am a planner by nature. I wake up with a list of things I want to get done that day. One of the things I still struggle with is managing my time and not let time manage me. The most important thing about planning my day is not to overwhelm myself. Knowing your limitations is important and it lessens the guilt. I struggled with accepting and working within my limitation as changes came my way. It is especially true if you have children. I am a single mother and raised a strong-willed child. I found out the start of my day is the most important for me.
A great way to start the day is to be still quietly for a few moments. It can be sitting at the counter drinking your morning beverage or in bed listening to the birds happily chirping outside. I start my day laying in bed with my cats, giving them their morning scratch. For too many years, after my alarm went off, I would bound out of bed and run headlong into my day. I found that is not the foundation for a good day. Children waking their parents is a given, so pull them into the bed and cuddle with them. Morning cuddles always brighten up my day.

In the final analysis, I find that no matter what, I never get everything done. I do find, however, that if I have food, clean clothes, and hot water, then it is a good day. When faced with the question of need or want, then I find that I have what I need. Time should be your best friend and not your worst enemy. Find joy, love, and laughter in each hour given to you. I hope that, in finding these things, you will also find forgiveness and love for yourself. Please be kind to yourself and others. .
